How to wear stripes: part 1 – jacket

howtowearstripesjacket1

I’m starting a new series today and every Wednesday I will share with you different ways to style an item of clothing or a trend. Starting with stripes. They’re not really trendy, they are timeless and that makes them even better. I love stripes! Put on a pair of jeans, classic Breton top and a pair of cute flats and you’re good to go and chic at the same time. It’s the safest option ever but works every time! I own several Breton tops and they really are a wardrobe staple but if you want to go a little further with your stripes, read on.

Today I’m showing you how to wear a stripy jacket, next time will be top (but not Breton) and then skirt. I wonder which look you will like the best, so make sure you let me know. I have a few stripy jackets as well (told you I loved stripes, I own more stripy items than I can admit) case in point here. In both cases I styled the jacket with a simple white top and jeans. I believe if you’re wearing a statement jacket (which this is what it essentially is) you want to keep the rest of the look simple. If you’re new to striped jacket especially, styling it with jeans is the easiest way.

If you want to look smarter, you can add a pair of cigarette or slim fit trousers. I would mostly keep the top white, because that really shows of the colours well and doesn’t take away the attention from the jacket. That’s your main focus and keep it that way. If you’re feeling playful and more confident with your stripes you can add a fun brooch to really add to the statement.

With accessories keep it simple too. You can choose the same colour shoes that can be found in your jacket, or go for nude or black. Don’t overdo it and really stick to few colours when you’re new to this. As you feel more confident with this look you can really play with it but I really would keep the jacket as your main statement piece and keep the rest simple.

Stripes are such a fun print and make your outfit pop without it looking like you’re trying too hard. They’re effortless but chic. There’s so many options. You can go for two colour or something very colourful and it will brighten your day.

Do you love stripes? Don’t forget to check out my next stripy look next Wednesday.

Say it with a tee

Paristee11

There’s so many things I want to tell you about this outfit I don’t know where to start..

First and possibly the most obvious. If you have been following me for some time you would know about my love for Paris and when I saw this tee shirt I knew I had to have it as a little reminder. I don’t wear tee shirts very often but I do like ones with little slogans that say it all so you don’t have to. Statement tops are quite a big trend and this is my little nod to it. I like to wear tees with dressier skirts to add a little edge – it’s a nice contrast.

Secondly I want to talk about my denim jacket. On the day we shot these it was so warm (only few days ago!) and I didn’t really need a jacket but this beautiful weather won’t last and layers will be more and more necessary. I also talked about layering in my last post, and I believe a denim jacket is a wardrobe staple that you will reach for time and time again, not just in fall. I bough this one on eBay about 13 years ago for under a £10 and it was the Best Buy ever. I can’t tell you how much I’ve worn it and it still looks great. I like that it’s quite fitted. Many denim jackets these days are too boxy and I prefer them shaped. It’s more feminine. I love to throw my denim jacket over dresses and wear them with skirts to dress down my outfits a little. If you haven’t got one you really need one and I linked to something similar for very good price.

I also want to talk about these shoes. Literally every time I wear them I get tons of compliments! Seriously, people on the street have stopped me to either compliment or even ask where they were from. And if I tell you they only cost £28 you’ll find it hard to believe. Here’s a link for you because I am nice and happy to share the compliments with you. They are also very comfortable and just go with about anything. They’re so pretty I wear them a lot and they always cheer me up.

Oh and the skirt? I’ve been wearing it a lot too. Another one of the great transitional items I love so much. It’s made from 100% cotton but it’s quite thick so you can wear it all year round which I’m definitely planning to do. In the winter I’ll just add boots and knitwear. The lenght is perfect and I am the biggest fan of anything with pockets. In my eyes everything should have pockets. Not that I put a lot in them but it’s just better.

On another note I am back to work today after a week off. But don’t think that I’ve been slacking and didn’t nothing all the time! I actually had a very busy week catching up with lot of friend and shooting a lot of content so now I can post regularly and won’t have any excuses. I am very happy with the images we got and can’t wait to show you all my autumn outfit and hopefully inspire you with some of them. Starting this Wednesday with a new series showing different ways to wear and item or a trend.

How is it October already? How have you been?

Indian summer and transitional dressing

artoflayering3

The last few days in London have been amazing. It’s actually felt like summer and I’ve tried my best to spend time as much time outdoors as possible because who knows how long it will last. I love Indian summer and to be honest we’ve been very spoilt this year with the weather. But as lovely as it’s been it’s a bit tricky time to dress for.

Even though in the afternoon it feels like summer and you can get away with not wearing much, in the morning and evening it does get chilly. That’s why I tend to bring a sweater or a jacket which can be easily taken off. Transitional dressing can be fun but needs more thinking about.

We’re not at a stage any more when you can just throw on a dress and leave the house and I definitely rely on layering this time of the year. Some lighter pieces still work, like this skirt, that I bought at the end of the summer and feels quite summery, but can be also worn with boots and knitwear. I also love the colour palette that’s so fitting for this time of the year. But it’s time to start incorporating fall colours into your wardrobe (like rust and Burgundy) and also booties and heavier fabrics and items.

I have been stocking up on jumpers and have been layering them with other skirts and printed trousers. I love the combination of skirts and pants in lighter fabrics with a chunkier knitted piece. It works really well. In this case I put summery top underneath and just enjoyed afternoon in the sun. I wish all autumn could be like these past few days.

I’ve just had a week off work where I really wanted to concentrate on blogging (I know I’ve been slacking lately) but I managed to shoot a lot of content and I have a lot of autumn looks coming up. Autumn is very pretty and can be really fun to dress for and I’ve discovered a couple of new favourite colour combinations that I can’t wait to show you.

I will be also starting new series trying to show you more ways to wear one trend or a piece of clothing. I’m starting with 3 ways to wear stripes which is coming up next week. As you can see I love stripes and it’s such a fun print to wear and it’s one suitable for all year round. You may know that I don’t really follow trends and I prefer sticking to things I like and work and are more timeless. It’s better for our purses and the environment to wear clothes more than once and if you play with accessories and combine your outfits well you can have loads of fun with fashion and dressing. And that’s what’s it all about. Fashion is not serious and it’s there to be enjoyed.

This is my lost post for September (where has the time gone?). I am back to posting more regularly again and you can expect a fashion post on Mondays and Wednesdays and a beauty post on Fridays from next week on. I hope you will like what I have in store for you and I wish you a wonderful October.

What are your tips for transitional dressing?

What every wardrobe needs – white shirt

whiteshirt1

After a bit of a summer break, I’m back again! And I really want to be sharing with you more styling tips and talk more about fashion because that’s what I love.

I love creating outfits in my head and planning what to wear tomorrow, the day after and the season ahead.. you get the picture. I’ve bought lots of new things for fall and winter and I’m doing a lot of shoots in the next couple of weeks and will show you my favourite trends and things to wear.

By now you may know that I don’t really follow trends and I prefer to stick to my style which is quite classic and timeless. I prefer pieces that you can wear for years to come, but I do like to mix it with trendier pieces to make it more interesting.

One piece however that is definitely a timeless item and I believe every woman should have in your wardrobe is a simple white shirt. I like mine in stretch cotton and have quite a few of them and also variations of them. White shirt is perfect for those days when you want to be effortless but stylish.

White shirt goes literally with everything and is suitable for any occasion. You can dress it down or up, wear it for work, coffee with friends and even a special occasion with the right outfit. I love wearing mine with jeans, skirts, trousers, you name it.

Roll up the sleeves, add denim cut offs and fancy flats for and effortless summer look. Now that we’re heading to autumn you can pair them with your favourite skirt (printed one gets bonus points) or keep it simple like me and just play with different colours.

The options are endless.

I’m thinking about doing a post about 3 ways to wear a white shirt: casual look, work and evening. Is that something you’d be interested in?

Monochrome (with a touch of colour) and plans for August

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Black and white is a timeless combo that is understated yet very sophisticated. I love this look but also like to add a touch of pink to make it more “ME’.

I mentioned numerous times how much I love white dresses (most recently here),  and here’s another oldie but goodie from one of my-go to brands – Self Portrait. Seriously I’ve been living in them this summer and I am not planning to stop. Adding black accessories is always a winning combination but to be honest I own very few. This Miu Miu bag was a sale buy few years ago and although I don’t wear it very often it is so useful to have. Nice black clutch is a wardrobe staple and there are occasions when I’m so glad I have it.

But rather than going full on monochrome I added my fuchsia Jimmy Choo sandals. I wore this look for a dinner with friend and I think it’s nice summery outfit with the black adding  chicness to it.

By the way these are the last photos taken before my operation. If you don’t know what I’m talking about you can read all about it here. I am excited to share with you my new look soon. I am very happy with the healing progress so far although in the last couple of days it felt a bit sore.

Last week was a busy one and I didn’t have any day off, catching up on everything and everyone and it was quite tough after two weeks of doing nothing. This week is already shaping up to be a busy one but I am really trying to keep a balance and take more time off. I really want to up my yoga too, because I seriously can tell the difference when I have been doing it regularly and when not. I feel so much better after but sometimes struggle to find the time but I just need to stop making excuses and do it.

August is a time when lot of people take time off but I usually don’t go on holidays because everything is extra busy and much more expensive and I much prefer travelling in September. But it’ll be a good time for me to slow down a little and I think I will be blogging a bit less often just this month and really concentrate on myself and my wellbeing while everyone is away. It’s so important!

What are your plans for August?

Fait Maison

faitmaison9

Forget Peggy Porschen, forget Elan Cafe, Fait Maison is the place to visit! This is a place that totally gets me and surprisingly it’s still under the radar! Well probably not for too long..

This place has everything! The most beautiful flower entrance that matches my favourite full skirt oh so well, the pretties and comfiest pink sofa in a corner surrounded by more flowers, cute details everywhere and that’s just the decor! The food is just as good and the coffee super instagrammable. But more about that next time. I must admit I’ve only discovered it recently but I’m already hooked!

Seriously the food is delicious: brunch favourites mixed with middle eastern cuisine, amazing selection of teas and coffees, cakes, macarons, you name it.. And the staff is very friendly. And don’t even get me started on the bathroom. You must visit the bathroom..

It’s very close to Gloucester Road station which is a very nice area anyway and there’s lots to do around. You’re just a stone throw away from V&A (one of my favourite museums) and they’ve go so many great exhibitions coming up you could totally make a day out of it. And by the way this is in NO WAY sponsored. I just write about things I love.

And now about the outfit. The skirt is super old Zara. I love wearing old Zara pieces because they’re still great but less people wear them after some time.. And I love this skirt. It’s super comfortable, has elasticated waist (who else loves elasticated waist?!) and pockets. Need I say more? Paired with a little off the shoulder top, all in cotton to survive this heat. And I’m in no way complaining about the heat by the way. I’m loving it! Bring on another month of this (apparently it’s coming).

You may or may not know that I’ve had a little surgery recently and I’m going to write more about it this Friday and share pictures of before and after. I’m very happy with the result so far and it’s not even healed properly yet.

Life feels good right now. Summer and sunshine definitely make me happy but I think things are going well anyway. Long may it last..

Have you visited Fait Maison yet?

White dresses forever

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I really hope you’re not fed up of seeing me in a white dress but I really do love them. They’re so versatile and perfect for summer!

What I love about white dresses is that they are literally like a blank canvas and you can play with the accessories to create many different looks. You can style them up or down and wear them for many different occasions. This dress is 100% cotton so really great for the weather we’ve been having.

Here are some of my other white dresses 1, 2, 3, 4.

This dress is from Mango (unfortunately sold out) and I must say I’m really loving Mango at the moment. I used to shop there a lot years ago and then I kind of went off it, but recently I’ve been buying quite a few things there and loving their style again. The quality is really good, they use a lot of natural fabrics (so important in this heat) and the prices are very reasonable. Most of the pieces I bought recently I bought at ASOS (you probably know I’m obsessed with that shop) but I’m planning a trip to actual Mango store soon.

Have you rediscovered any brand recently?
