How to wear stripes part 2 – top

howtowearstripestop7

In my new Wednesday’s series How to: I’m showing you how to wear stripes 3 different ways. You can see how I wore a striped jacket in Part 1, and today I want to expand on wearing stripy tops.

I’ve mentioned Breton top in my first post about stripes and it’s the easiest way to wear this print and you should definitely have some in your wardrobe, but in here I want to show you more fun and more adventurous way.

I love colour and most colourful things and the colour palette of this top is just so pretty. It’s easier to style than you may think. If you stick with the colours in this top (and there’s so many to chose from) that’s your palette for the rest of your look. I kept it simple with white skirt (which I have been wearing so much by the way – I wore it very different way here) and chose colourful accessories.

My main tip to wearing  a colourful item:

Stick to the same colour palette and don’t add any more colours that are not included in that item.

It’s ok to add neutrals and metallic jewellery but keep the rest fairly simple. Don’t overcomplicate the look and make the stripy (or other printed top) be the main focus. This look is quite fun and playful but you could totally make it more sophisticated with adding navy or black and put a blazer over it and you’re ready to work as well.

Sometimes people are afraid of stripes/prints but it’s all about the styling and the colour palette. Like I’ve mentioned few times: keep the rest simple. You can really style them up or down and have a little play with stripes.

What’s your favourite way to style stripes?

How to wear stripes: part 1 – jacket

howtowearstripesjacket1

I’m starting a new series today and every Wednesday I will share with you different ways to style an item of clothing or a trend. Starting with stripes. They’re not really trendy, they are timeless and that makes them even better. I love stripes! Put on a pair of jeans, classic Breton top and a pair of cute flats and you’re good to go and chic at the same time. It’s the safest option ever but works every time! I own several Breton tops and they really are a wardrobe staple but if you want to go a little further with your stripes, read on.

Today I’m showing you how to wear a stripy jacket, next time will be top (but not Breton) and then skirt. I wonder which look you will like the best, so make sure you let me know. I have a few stripy jackets as well (told you I loved stripes, I own more stripy items than I can admit) case in point here. In both cases I styled the jacket with a simple white top and jeans. I believe if you’re wearing a statement jacket (which this is what it essentially is) you want to keep the rest of the look simple. If you’re new to striped jacket especially, styling it with jeans is the easiest way.

If you want to look smarter, you can add a pair of cigarette or slim fit trousers. I would mostly keep the top white, because that really shows of the colours well and doesn’t take away the attention from the jacket. That’s your main focus and keep it that way. If you’re feeling playful and more confident with your stripes you can add a fun brooch to really add to the statement.

With accessories keep it simple too. You can choose the same colour shoes that can be found in your jacket, or go for nude or black. Don’t overdo it and really stick to few colours when you’re new to this. As you feel more confident with this look you can really play with it but I really would keep the jacket as your main statement piece and keep the rest simple.

Stripes are such a fun print and make your outfit pop without it looking like you’re trying too hard. They’re effortless but chic. There’s so many options. You can go for two colour or something very colourful and it will brighten your day.

Do you love stripes? Don’t forget to check out my next stripy look next Wednesday.

Say it with a tee

Paristee11

There’s so many things I want to tell you about this outfit I don’t know where to start..

First and possibly the most obvious. If you have been following me for some time you would know about my love for Paris and when I saw this tee shirt I knew I had to have it as a little reminder. I don’t wear tee shirts very often but I do like ones with little slogans that say it all so you don’t have to. Statement tops are quite a big trend and this is my little nod to it. I like to wear tees with dressier skirts to add a little edge – it’s a nice contrast.

Secondly I want to talk about my denim jacket. On the day we shot these it was so warm (only few days ago!) and I didn’t really need a jacket but this beautiful weather won’t last and layers will be more and more necessary. I also talked about layering in my last post, and I believe a denim jacket is a wardrobe staple that you will reach for time and time again, not just in fall. I bough this one on eBay about 13 years ago for under a £10 and it was the Best Buy ever. I can’t tell you how much I’ve worn it and it still looks great. I like that it’s quite fitted. Many denim jackets these days are too boxy and I prefer them shaped. It’s more feminine. I love to throw my denim jacket over dresses and wear them with skirts to dress down my outfits a little. If you haven’t got one you really need one and I linked to something similar for very good price.

I also want to talk about these shoes. Literally every time I wear them I get tons of compliments! Seriously, people on the street have stopped me to either compliment or even ask where they were from. And if I tell you they only cost £28 you’ll find it hard to believe. Here’s a link for you because I am nice and happy to share the compliments with you. They are also very comfortable and just go with about anything. They’re so pretty I wear them a lot and they always cheer me up.

Oh and the skirt? I’ve been wearing it a lot too. Another one of the great transitional items I love so much. It’s made from 100% cotton but it’s quite thick so you can wear it all year round which I’m definitely planning to do. In the winter I’ll just add boots and knitwear. The lenght is perfect and I am the biggest fan of anything with pockets. In my eyes everything should have pockets. Not that I put a lot in them but it’s just better.

On another note I am back to work today after a week off. But don’t think that I’ve been slacking and didn’t nothing all the time! I actually had a very busy week catching up with lot of friend and shooting a lot of content so now I can post regularly and won’t have any excuses. I am very happy with the images we got and can’t wait to show you all my autumn outfit and hopefully inspire you with some of them. Starting this Wednesday with a new series showing different ways to wear and item or a trend.

How is it October already? How have you been?

Things that make us US

pinkdress3

There are things that make us instantly feel better. Whether it’d be favourite colour, favourite perfume or a piece of jewellery that has a special meaning, using these things has a special “power”.

For me, some of those things are the colour pink, Chanel Chance perfume and my YSL Arty ring. I’ve had that ring over ten years now and wear it every day. I don’t leave the house without it and when I do I don’t feel myself.

I have a lot of perfumes and wear them according to my mood but Chanel Chance is one I have been wearing for years. When I have an important meeting, a date or don’t feel quite myself, that’s the one I reach for. It has a familiarity that to me is empowering and lifting. I always feel certain way wearing it. I feel my best.

And of course the colour pink. I am always drawn to it subconsciously. It’s a happy colour and puts a smile on my face. Some days I wear a lot of pink and some days I wear very little but I definitely feel better when I wear more of it. It is my signature and it has an effect on my like few things have. It’s a mood and confidence booster.

Take this dress for example. It has many ingredients I love – I shared my appreciation for pleats already here, and the colour and length are very me. Although this is not a shade of pink I wear a lot (I tend to go for softer blush pinks) it definitely makes me feel better and more confident.

When I was moving recently, I went through a very stressful period. I didn’t exactly plan the move and it all happened very quickly. In times like these I rely on these things that feel familiar and make us feel better. There are more and I think we all have them and thank goodness. Life goes up and down. We all go through happy periods and times when life feels a bit tough. It’s good and important to have a strong support group of friends and family but also little things that make us feel US even when everything feels wrong.

What are some of the things that make you feel yourself?

How to wear a denim dress

denimdress8

I love dresses and I love denim and denim dresses are a wardrobe staple for me. I have a few and wear them all throughout the year.

My tip to wearing denim is to always dress it up for a smart casual look and therefore it’s suitable for more occasions. I always wear heels with denim and usually add a blazer or a boucle jacket when I’m wearing jeans. My style is quite elegant anyway but I think with dressed up denim you can easily go from day to night and it’s my preferred way.

I bought this dress in winter sales and knew I would wear it a lot come summer, but surprisingly wore it few times in the winter as well layered over a jumper. Good denim dress never goes out of style which can be said about any denim piece. I have a Diesel denim jacket that a bought on eBay for under £10 more than 10 years ago and still take it everywhere with me.

Denim is probably the most versatile fabric and because it’s made from cotton it’s perfect for summer. I love the shape of this dress, the neckline and the length – it’s my dream dress. I’ve worn it for few different occasions and it always seem to work.

Here I’ve teamed it with my favourite heels the Hangisi pump by Manolo Blahnik. They are just so pretty! They’re a bit high as I prefer to wear lower heels these days but sometimes I make an exception.

If you follow me on Instagram you probably know that I am currently in Czech Republic spending some time with my family and I just shared a video on IGTV about  a surgery a had done while here. If you haven’t seen it yet go have a look and I will share the result and new pictures on Friday here for my beauty post.

How to wear a wrap dress

pinkwrapdress8

Do you sometimes get the feeling when you see a dress (or something else) and it’s so perfect and you just have to have it. This happened with this dress. It was literally love at first sight! I love the fact that in many ways it’s very me – pink, fit and flare, below the knee.. but on the other hand it’s a shade of pink I don’t own yet – it’s a salmon pink bordering on orange and it’s not a colour I usually go for.. It’s embroidered and I don’t think I own any embroidered dress and it’s a wrap dress and I often struggle with those.

But I seriously love it! I wore it over the weekend and didn’t want to take it of. It just made me feel good. The reason I often struggle with wrap dresses is because I think the cleavage is often too low, they keep opening when it’s windy and they don’t often fit right on a tall person. When it arrived (I ordered it online) I knew I wanted to keep it, but I wasn’t sure about the fit and it seemed very see-through. I didn’t know what to do and then it hit me! I put a slip underneath and it worked wonders. It helped with the low cleavage, wasn’t see through any more and I didn’t have to worry about the wind any more seriously life changer.

(Some time ago I bought a slip dress in Marks and Spencer (I needed it for a particular dress) and I never thought I would wear it as much as I do. It’s such a good thing to have in your wardrobe! There’s so many dresses that are little bit see-through and I realised a good  slip is a life safer.)

I could go out and just enjoy my weekend. It has been such a beautiful weather here in London and I’ve been trying to spend as much time as I can outside and make the most of it. So on Saturday, wearing my new dress, my friend and I went to west London for a coffee and cake al fresco and then for a long walk in the south west London. It’s not an area I visit that often and it was nice just to wander through new streets and discover new hidden gems and it was so so lovely. We came across the amazing car in the first photo and I couldn’t resist posing in front of it. I love old cars. We ended up in a pub and had a bbq and couple of drinks (I had Aperol spritzer should you care) and it was just such a nice day.

I discovered a new cute coffee shop which I can’t wait to tell you about but you’ll just have to wait for now.

How was your weekend? Do you love wrap dresses?

Bargain dress and how to style it

ZaraDress5

Wearing: Dress Zara, boots Nicholas Kirkwood, bag Valentino, belt Gucci, jacket Boohoo, earrings Baublebar

Don’t you just love it when you get a great dress for a great price. Or any bargain for that matter. I mentioned it quite a few times that I like mixing high street and designer and when you get any of them for a good price it enjoy wearing them even more. Take this dress for example. Even at full price it was £29.99. Can you believe it?! Add a designer belt and you have an elevated outfit. The dress since went on sale on unfortunately now sold out online mostly but here’s a link anyway and hopefully you can get your size or maybe you can find it in one of Zara stores. If you do make sure you buy it because it’s so easy to dress up or down and wear for many different occasions.

And if you can’t find it don’t despair, I’ve linked few other nice options here:

Can’t go wrong with off the shoulder 1, I’m obsessed with the colour 2, great for evening and such a great price 3, I love a good shirt dress 4, stripes are always a good idea 5

What have you been buying in the sales?
