Autumn lipstick shades

falllipsticks5

In last week’s beauty post’s I promised to show you some of my favourite lipstick shades for autumn so here it is.

I still love pink lips in the fall I just go for deeper shades and choose more raspberry colours and even go for Burgundy. I don’t like anything too dark though as it doesn’t suit my skin tone. If you’re pale like me I’d say avoid dark colour of lipsticks. If you still however want to wear Burgundy this Tom Ford shade is perfect for you. It’s the one I’m wearing in the photo below (and top one on my hand). It’s quite sheer to start with but you can layer it for a stronger shade. I really love it.

Another one I really love and have been wearing a lot is Estee Lauder Thrill Seeker. It’s a gorgeous shade, has a really nice texture and feels nice on the lips.

If you prefer matte lips you will love the YSL stain. It’s got amazing staying power and I love the colour. It’s more purple but not too daring and looks really nice on. The only reason why I don’t wear it more often is that it feels very dry (like most matte lipsticks do) and I prefer moisturising ones.

Last but definitely not least is a Dior lipstick. I love their make up and this lipstick is no exception. I’ve already spoke about it last week but here’s the link again. It’s a gorgeous colour and lasts really well.

What are your favourite lipsticks for autumn?

5 things to do in London this summer

5thingstodothissummer1.jpg

The main thing I love about living in London? There’s never shortage of things to do! And so much of it is for free! So with summer fast approaching here’s a few tips on what to do in and around London this year.

1.) Enjoy the blooming season. Even though these pictures were taken by displays made especially for the RHS Chelsea flower show (which has now finished), there’s never a shortage of beautiful flower arrangements and the city is in full bloom right now. If you love flowers, make sure you visit some of the vast gardens and parks London has to offer. The gardens at Kensington Palace and Hampton Court Palace are especially beautiful this time of the year and the rose garden in Hyde Park is my regular spot.  And let’s not forget Kew Gardens! They may seem a bit far out but so worth the trip! If you fancy a coffee and cake while enjoying blooming scenery, make sure you visit Peggy Porschen and you won’t be disappointed. They even have new flowery menu too.

2.) Make time for art and culture. The above photo was taken just before I visited the Swan Lake at Royal Opera House. I love going to ballet and opera and even theatre and musicals. There’s so much happening every day, we are literally spoilt for choice. And let’s not forget all the museums and galleries. This summer I’m definitely planning to see the Picasso exhibition, the Alaia one at Design museum is a must see and also the Monet and architecture. These are all paid for but if you want some culture without spending a penny, visit to National Gallery is always nice, also V&A museum is one of my favourites and the Wallace collection is just feast for eyes.

3.) Have a picnic. I don’t know how about you but I live outdoors in the summer. And I’m hoping for a really good weather this year. London has been quite good to us so far so let’s hope it stays. I just love having barbecues with friend and picnics even more. Throw some food in a basket, take a blanket, don’t forget your SPF and head to the nearest park. It’s likely you won’t be alone but it’s a great way to meet people too. Everyone is in better mood in the summer and definitely more chatty so who knows who you might bump into. Or take a book and just enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The nature really is at its best this time of the year.

4.) Make the most of the season. London really comes alive in the summer. There’s so many extra things happening. Many you have to book in advance but not all of them. I can’t wait for things like Wimbledon (on telly still haven’t been to the actually thing but definitely planning to one day..), ASCOT (even if you’re not into horse racing it’s such a fun thing to do), numerous festivals (whether musical or literary ones), open air theatre in Regent’s Park and pop ups and events that will be happening most of summer. I am excited just thinking about it.

5.) Take a trip. Fancy a bit of a change? London has great connections to so many places. Just hop on a train and you can go to the seaside, have a mini city break in some cute places (Cambridge is my favourite) or even jump on a Eurostar and be in Paris in two and a half hours. So what are you waiting for? Where is this summer going to take you?

What are your plans for this summer?

Top 5 lipsticks for Summer plus new skincare products discoveries

top5lipsticks1

Last Sunday on my Instagram instastories beauty series I talked about lipsticks (my favourite beauty subject) and wanted to recap the whole thing in case you missed it (you can also catch up on my highlights on the whole series).

Not surprisingly all these lipsticks are pink. Yes it is my favourite colour but also I feel I’m too pale for corals and I only love wearing red around Christmas time. But I really enjoy trying different shades of pink and different textures. Not a month goes by without me buying at least one lipstick and these are my current favourite all perfect for Spring and summer.

I am going from lightest to brightest. All these lipsticks are shiny. I don’t really wear matte lipsticks much. I prefer something hydrating.

1.) Dior Lacquer stick in Lazy. This actually happens to be my favourite. I’ve come to discovering it by complete coincidence. My good friend actually bought it but realised she didn’t like the colour that much and gave it to me. I, on the other hand, love it! I’ve just repurchased because I’ve been using it so much it ran out. I love the texture, it’s very moisturising, feels very nice on the lips and the colour is kind of dusky pink and it’s perfect for every day.

2.) Dior Lacquer stick in Bubble. I’ve only purchased it recently because I really love the Lacquer sticks and actually want to buy more shades. They are seriously addicting! The colour Bubble is named aptly as it’s a bubble gum shade. It’s fun and playful and I’m loving it. Perfect for adding colour to your outfit especially in summer. I’ll be wearing this loads!

3.)  Chanel Rouge Coco in Ina. Again I’ve been wearing this one a lot. It’s for those days when I want bold colour but still not too much. I’d say it’s a happy medium. Very moisturising and stays on well. It’s a really lovely shade.

4.) YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 50. The brightest of them all but still appropriate for day wear. I don’t wear this as much as the other 3 but I keep it for those days when I need a pick me up colour. You can layer it and have it really strong or go lighter but it still adds more colour to your lips. When my outfit is really pale this is the one I reach for.

5.) Dior Addict Lacquer Plump in 677 Disco Dior. The boldest and brightest and definitely not for every day (at least not for me). Has an amazing staying power. High shine, glitters and perfect for evening. I wore it to the ballet this week (see my look here). Love it for those special occasions.

I also quickly wanted to mention two recent beauty discoveries. The Kiehl’s serum I was given a sample of recently when I was buying something at the airport and the minute I tried it on I knew I had to have it. It’s amazing! When I was buying it I was given another sample, this time of the Midnight recovery concentrate and again loving it and will be definitely buying it soon. Great two products for dry skin and I will do a proper review soon.

Have you tried any of these products? What would you like me to review next?

Top 5 beauty must haves for travelling

travelbeauty1

Following my recent trip to Tuscany, I wanted to share my must have beauty products when travelling. When I’m on holiday I usually wear very minimal make up (I don’t wear too much anyway) and I like to pack light when it comes to beauty so choose multitasking products.

1.) My number 1 product whether I’m on the road or not is SPF. That is something I actually wear all year round. Ask any dermatologist or skin expert and they will tell you to use SPF daily to protect skin and prevent ageing. Because my skin is pale and sensitive it’s even more important but no matter what your skin make sure you not skipping SPF. I love the Avene SPF 50 for travelling but I also wear it on very hot days in London (when we get them). It’s got a nice texture, super high SPF so I don’t have to worry all day and it feels good on the skin. A little goes a long way and you face may be quite white after putting it on so I use colour correcting drops on top.

2.) Then I put on a lightweight foundation or CC cream. I recently switched to Dior Nude Air foundation with SPF 25 for my daily protection (remember SPF don’t add up that’s why I use 50 underneath). I wear the lightest colour Ivory 010. I love the velvety texture! It’s very very light (in texture and coverage) but if like me your concern is to even out skin tone on a dry skin but not blemishes this is your friend. I don’t have problematic skin so always go for light coverage and if I break out I use concealer on top. I prefer my skin to breath and natural make up. It’s the first time I’ve bought this foundation but really love it and will definitely buy again. It looks very natural but gives you a nice glow. I might go for a shade darker in the summer when I have a bit of a tan but it’s definitely my new favourite. I’ve been using Chanel foundations for years which I like, but it’s good to switch once in a while and I’m glad I’ve discovered this.

3.) You may have noticed on my Instagram and my last beauty post that I am developing slight obsession with Dior beauty. I’ve bought quite a few products recently and really like the quality. My other recent purchase is their brow pencil. That’s something I always take on holidays because defined brows really make a difference. I was using Charlotte Tillbury before which I reviewed here, but wanted to try something different. This one is very thin so you can be very precise but highly pigmented so go lightly. You just twist it to get it out (I prefer it to pencils that you have to sharpen) and on the other side has a little brush which is something I always look out for. Again little goes a long way and I will definitely repurchase. I wear Universal brown.

4.) Like I said at the beginning I like products that are multitasking and this is it! I love Nars Multiple sticks. The one in Copacabana I wear on most days as a highlighter – it has a nice shimmer and sheen – so good. And the pink one  in Riviera I wear as a blusher when I want something light and natural. I love the creamy texture and you can use them on your lids as eyeshadows too and also on your lips. That’s why they’re called multiple and they’re so great. I’ve been using these for years and they always go with me abroad.

5.) You may know I love lipsticks and always have a few on me (I need options) but rather than taking lots of different ones I like to take a lipstick palette. I love this one by YSL as it has a great selection of colours. Yes you can see which two are my favourite and I also like mixing them together. They come with a brush and a mirror so it’s really a no brainer. Perfect for any handbags for touch ups too.

Obviously I take more things but these are a constant. I started  a weekly series every Sunday on my Instastories talking about beauty (you can catch it on highlights too) and I’m planning to post more regular beauty posts on here too. What review would you like to see next?

Do you use any of these products? What are your must have travel beauty products?

Embracing your age no matter what the number

Balloons8

Earlier this week I turned 37. I had a lovely day celebrating with my friends (you can read all about it here) but I’m not going to lie and say it was easy. No one likes getting older right?

My birthday was on Monday and on Saturday before I had had a little break down. I’d been feeling a bit down for a few days and when everyone was making a fuss about the upcoming day and asking me whether I was excited I just started crying. I’m not sure why and it’s completely silly. I started talking to a lot of friends about how I felt and learnt something very important. No matter what the age, most of us feel like we should be somewhere else, doing something else, are underachieving etc. We are too harsh on ourselves!

So I decided to embrace my age and concentrate on the positives. Yes I’m still single and the older you get the harder it seems to meet someone, but I’m free to do what I want and I’d rather be single than in a bad relationship. And yes I haven’t achieved all the career goals I hoped for, but I enjoy what I’m doing and I have my blog and social media which are my creative outlets and that makes me very happy.

Another big dream of mine is travelling and I must say that in my 36th year of life I have ticked quite a few destinations off my list. I visited Croatia, Venice, Barcelona and Paris few times so that’s not a bad going and I’m going to Florence in May which I can’t wait for and Czech Republic in July (see where else I’m hoping to go in the near future here) I’ve made some of these trips alone and that has been a big learning curve. I never though I’d be able to go on a holiday on my own but it’s actually very empowering. Learning to do these things on your own gives you more confidence and sense of freedom. And yes I’d love to meet someone one day but I’m doing rather well on my own.

I think we need to stop being so critical to ourselves and concentrate on the things we achieved. I first arrived to London a week before my 20th birthday (17 years ago) and that was before Czech Republic joined the EU so my only option was to be an au pair. I’ve come a long way since then. And I/we tend to forget those little achievements. But even living on your own and being independent is a big thing to do and not everyone could do it.

I am trying to work on those dreams every day. I think sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture and sometimes you have to break those big dreams into little goals and do a little by little to achieve what you want. You’re never too old to do what you love and makes you happy. There’s right time for everything and it’s very easy to forget but we need to remind ourselves every single day.

I promise myself to be kinder to me from now on and pat myself on the back even for the little things. Life is not always easy and we all have our doubts and down days, but let’s stop for a moment and put things into perspective and concentrate on the good in life.

How do you deal with negative thoughts? Are you happy where you are at your age?

How to dress in between seasons

Boulestin6

Zara jeans, top and blazer (seem to have sold out online already!), Dolce and Gabbana bag, shoes and sunglasses Chanel

Although I am very excited for Spring (and it seems we’ve had first few little moments) I find this time of the year very tricky to dress for. Anyone else? It’s still very cold in the mornings but it starts warming up int the afternoons and you’re fed up with your winter coats but you still need something. My tip is definitely layering. AND Spring jackets.

I LOVE Chanel style tweed/boucle jackets and I have quite a few. My dream is to own a Chanel one one day, but for now I buy at least one every season at Zara. They are really one of the best places for nice jackets and blazers and I have quite a collection (few examples herehere and here.) I think they look just as chic with jeans as they do with dresses and you can easily dress them up or down. They are your best friend this time of the year.

When it’s still cool I put winter or trench coat on top (depending on the temperature) and when it warms up I just wear them with a simple top underneath or over dresses. I find them very versatile and keep buying more and more.

I don’t know how about you but I can’t go to Zara and leave empty handed. Like I said, every season I go and see their new jackets, but on my last trip I also picked up these cropped jeans and knitted top which is great for this time of year too (ok maybe not the jeans..). And there have been few trips since.. (guilty face). But Zara is great for updating your wardrobe for Spring without breaking the bank. The older I get the more I appreciate good quality and buying great timeless staples, but adding from high street you can tap into trends and mix and match with your classic pieces.

The downside to shopping at Zara is that thousands of other people will own the same thing. My tip to make your outfit different and more expensive is to add designer accessories. That’s where I invest my money into. I have a weakness for high end handbags but I really do believe they make the outfit. So even though all my clothes in this outfit are from Zara latest collection, I added my new favourite Dolce and Gabanna bag and Chanel slingback (that are the best shoes ever) and I believe that make the outfit stand out more.

What do you think? Do you like this look? What is your Spring must have?

The Ned

TheNed7

Did you know there are eight restaurants in The Ned? If you don’t believe me, check here. And not only for this reason The Ned has quickly become my favourite place to hang out. These shots were taken in the Millie’s lounge over a delicious breakfast, but I’ve also had yummy brunch in the Malibu kitchen and and a great lunch at Zobler’s. And drinks in the bars several times.

The is just something about the Ned. I’ve been won over since the first time I came in. They have a live music most nights and it just has a very nice atmosphere. Often the music is jazz which I didn’t think I was a fan of but when it’s played at the Ned I can’t get enough. I can’t explain it but everything just seems right in there. It reminds me of New York (a place I keep meaning to visit in the near future again – it’s been too long) and I just think you can’t have a bad time at the Ned. And even the ladies room look amazing! we shot these photos there.

The building is beautiful from inside and out and I love the high ceilings. The decor varies throughout the place and you can truly find your perfect spot. And let’s get back to the fact that there is such a selection of places to eat. No matter what you fancy, you can find it in there.

THIS IS NOT A SPONSORED POST. I just genuinely love the place. Have you been yet?

And now about the outfit. How I would describe the Ned is that despite feeling very classy, it’s got a relaxed atmosphere and you can dress up or down.

This time I chose smart casual look with jeans and a cosy jumper (it was shot on a very cold day) but dressed it up with nice heels and my favourite Chanel bag. The beauty of Chanel is that it can dress up any outfit and even if you’re dressed quite casually, it just elevates the look. The best investment piece and definitely favourite piece in my wardrobe.

What’s your favourte piece in your wardrobe?

Jumper: Theory, belt Gucci, jeans J Brand, shoes Manolo Blahnik, bag Chanel, earrings Baublebar, A pendant necklace APM Monaco
